MEET THE SPEAKERS
ERIN CONNERS, PhD, MPH; Epidemiologist, CDC, Division of Viral Hepatitis
Dr. Erin Conners is an epidemiologist with the Division of Viral Hepatitis at CDC within the Prevention Branch. Her work focuses on the development of updated hepatitis B screening and testing guidelines as well as supporting interventions to improve the prevention of and care for people with hepatitis B infection.
CHARI COHEN, DrPH, MPH; Senior Vice President, Hepatitis B Foundation
Chari Cohen is Senior Vice President for the Hepatitis B Foundation. For the past 21 years, she has planned, implemented, and evaluated community programs and research projects focusing on reducing health disparities and improving health outcomes associated with hepatitis B and liver cancer. Her work focuses on improving awareness and knowledge, reducing stigma, and promoting hepatitis B testing and care. Dr. Cohen is co-chair of the national Hep B United coalition, co-founder and chair of Hep B United Philadelphia, co-founder and chair of CHIPO: Coalition Against Hepatitis for People of African Origin; and co-chair of the Hep Free PA coalition. She sits on the steering committee for the HBV Forum for Collaborative Research and serves as a member of the Patient Advocacy Group of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD). Dr. Cohen is Professor at the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute, and adjunct faculty for Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
BRIAN McMAHON, MD; Medical and Scientific Director Liver Disease and Hepatitis Program, Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium
Brian J. McMahon MD is a clinical Hepatologist and the Scientific Program and Clinical Director of the Liver Disease and Hepatitis Program at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska, and guest researcher at the Arctic Investigations Program of the CDC in Anchorage. He is a fellow in the AASLD and a Master in the American College of Physicians. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington and University of Alaska WWAMI Medical School. His program follows over 1200 Alaska Native Persons with chronic hepatitis B and 2400 with chronic hepatitis C throughout the State of Alaska. The hepatitis B program has already met all WHO 2030 goals for HBV. He conducts research on long-term outcome and management of chronic hepatitis B and C.
