The newly formed Healthy Behaviors for Cancer Survivors Work Group incorporates the previous work of the Tobacco Cessation for Cancer Survivors Work Group and the National Partners who are engaged in and in support of coalitions working on related initiatives.
Current CDC priorities include addressing public health needs of cancer survivors. Topics and strategies to be addressed by the work group include:
- Physical activity
- Mental health and emotional support services
- Tobacco cessation
- Fertility preservation
Resources to address these topics and strategies and a careful review of resources to assist coalitions engaged in these activities will be done. Coalitions will be provided with resources and the work group will address gaps in those resources. Technical assistance activities will be planned.
Access to comprehensive follow-up care, evidence-based surveillance protocols and secondary prevention measures are also critical for this population and resources to facilitate access to these services will also be addressed. The work group will develop resources that support coalition activity around the development and delivery of Survivorship Care Plans and Patient Navigation programs that work with the survivor population.
